I’ve learned that despite many unavoidable distractions from today’s various media platforms, reading remains a welcomed and necessary pastime. Here are my musings in recognition of National Reading Month, celebrated in March.
Reading as a Welcomed and Necessary Pastime
Reading is fundamental. And we pay homage to National Reading Month by viewing printed words on numerous sheets in white, off-white, or the lightest shade of cream, bound in a book. It’s a welcomed delight, captivating us, facilitating our natural propensity as curious beings, and preoccupying our minds through our imagination. Whether we silently or vocally choose to articulate an author’s transcribed narrative, we accept the invitation to a sometimes known, sometimes unknown destination with the desire to be enlightened, transformed, and, of course, entertained. Whether fiction or nonfiction, whether in a group, with our child, or alone, reading rules.
