It’s the all-too-familiar sound recognized by those enamored with the pastime. Fans eagerly join in “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” during the seventh-inning stretch. I eagerly join in the deafening cheers after hearing another crack of the bat, followed by another scored run.

I relish the collective rallying of our favorite boys of summer for nine innings during the warmth of a summer afternoon or evening. When I’m not among rooters, I may choose to relish the uplifting crack of the bat, at the crack of dawn, with my childhood lumber at a local deserted field, cheering silently.
